A nurse was killed in a stabbing attack at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Texas on Tuesday morning, USA TODAY reported.
Gail Sandidge, 57, was working her shift in the Ambulatory Surgery Center when 22-year-old Kyron Rayshawn Templeton brutally stabbed her. Additionally, he attacked a second hospital employee, Karen Bobo, and three visitors -- Harris Teel, Teresa Allison, and Melissa Simms.
Sandidge was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning. Bobo and one of the visitors were treated and released, while a second was listed in good condition and the third in critical condition.
Authorities discovered the murder weapon outside of the hospital and detained Templeton, whose mother was a patient in the hospital, near a church just a short distance away from the incident.
The Longview Police Department said he was charged with one count of murder and three accounts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held on $2.6 million bond.
According to a report in the Longview News-Journal, Templeton said "they" were trying to kill his mother, who was scheduled to have a procedure on Tuesday morning.
"The Good Shepherd family tragically lost a member of its team this morning," said hospital CEO Altmiller.
Chad Johnson, who was waiting for his daughter to have a procedure done at the hospital, witnessed the attack.
"The nurse that was caring for our daughter came out of one of the other curtained areas to see what was going on," Johnson said. "That's when he stabbed her in the chest."
Johnson said Templeton then turned in the direction of him and his family, prompting him to step in front of his wife and daughter.
"You hear people talk about facial expressions and eyes and you could just tell something was wrong," Jackson added.
