While "Breaking Bad" was Walter White's story first and foremost, Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman quickly became a beloved character in his own right. Though Paul has moved on to other interesting projects since the conclusion of "Breaking Bad," most recently "The Way" on Hulu, fans have been clamoring for a return of the lovable meth dealer on AMC's prequel series "Better Call Saul." Would Paul be open to such a move?
"I absolutely feel like I said goodbye to Jesse, and it might sound a little cheesy, but I think Jesse will always live somewhere within me," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I'm the only person on the planet that lived and breathed every moment of Jesse's existence, and then some. Every moment that we saw, I created in my crazy head. I loved Jesse. I feel so connected to him.
"I absolutely feel like I said goodbye to him, for now. Because he could always come back in one way or another."
That's not a yes, but it's also not a no. Shortly before "Better Call Saul" kicked off its first season last year, Paul did say he was open to returning, telling Variety: "We always have fun having that discussion. Vince, myself, Peter, the writers. We just have no idea how that would happen. But hopefully one day."
However, it would be tricky to incorporate Jesse into "Better Call Saul." The character has no ties to any of the main players on "Better Call Saul" at this point in the timeline. In fact, he's probably still in high school or very shortly removed while season two of "Better Call Saul" plays out. Still, showrunners Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould could figure out some way to incorporate a Jesse Pinkman cameo if all parties involved were up for it.
"Better Call Saul" airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
