Former Sports Illustrated model Cheryl Tiegs is not a fan of the magazine's new cover that features plus-sized model Ashley Graham. The magazine released three different covers this year - one each with Graham, Ronda Rousey and Hailey Clauson - but Tiegs recently said she didn't think putting Graham on the cover was "healthy."
"I don't like that we're talking about full-figured women because it's glamorizing them because your waist should be smaller than 35 [inches]. That's what Dr. Oz said, and I'm sticking to it," explained Tiegs to E! News on the red carpet of the 13th Annual Global Green USA Pre-Oscar Party. "No, I don't think it's healthy. Her face is beautiful. Beautiful. But I don't think it's healthy in the long run."
Graham made history Feb. 13 when she was named the first-ever size 16 model to cover Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue. The natural and curvy beauty was signed to a top modeling agency when she was only 13 years old after being discovered at a mall when she was just 12, according to her website. A year before she graced the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue, Graham starred in the publication's 2015 #CurvesInBikinis campaign.
"I thought Sports Illustrated was taking a risk by putting a girl my size in the pages," Graham told People after her cover was revealed. "But putting me on the cover? They aren't just breaking barriers; they are the standard now. This is beyond epic."
