A new survey by Mintel for its 2015 report has found that about 40 percent of millennials are skipping out on cereal because of a very notable reason: eating cereal and cleaning up is just too much work, according to the New York Daily News.
Yes, that is correct. Millennials are apparently skipping out on breakfast at home because pouring cereal and milk into a bowl and chucking it into the dishwasher after eating has become the definition of an inconvenience.
Apart from the convenience factor, a significant number of the millennials who were surveyed also pointed out that cereals are processed food, and thus, are unnatural, reported Fox News.
The findings of the study nonetheless point out one thing that has been prevalent in today's day and age, which is that everything is all about efficiency and convenience. Kayla Samoy, a self-proclaimed millennial, has defended her generation.
"I love a good bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios or Frosted Mini Wheats, but my mornings are so busy that I usually don't get a chance to eat breakfast before leaving the house. Instead, I grab a much more convenient yogurt parfait or muffin from the cafeteria at work. So do many of the other millennials in the survey," she said, reported AZ Central.
Breakfast cereals have experienced a notable decline in profitability during the past few years, partly due to a generation that is extremely watchful about processed food. Back in 2000, cereal sales reached about $13.9 billion, while last year, sales only reached about $10 billion.
Then again, if cleaning a bowl is now considered inconvenient, what's coming next?
