Since the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," moviegoers have been pondering many of the film's unanswered mysteries. How did certain characters end up where they are? What are their connections? Fans have been theorizing and speculating non-stop. While we doubt that any concrete answers will be provided, "Star Wars" fans will have a ton of new information to pour over once the DVD and Blue-ray versions become available because they will include seven deleted scenes.
Mary Jo Markey and Maryann Brandon are nominated for an Academy Award for their editing work on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Since they are the ones that did all the cutting, they know exactly what was removed from the final product. Talking with The Independent, they revealed that there will be seven extra scenes included with the DVD, though they wouldn't provide any specific details.
"We have been talking about [the deleted scenes]," Brandon said. "But Disney has mentioned to us that - since they're going to be on the DVD treats for viewers - that we should stop talking about them. There aren't a lot. There's one with Harrison Ford, there's one with Rey, but there aren't a lot."
"I think there are maybe seven or eight," Markey added. "I don't know if that's a lot. I remember looking at the reel. Actually, I think there are seven."
Based on previous reports and rumors, it is likely that the deleted scenes include one with Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma and possibly a few with Lupita Nyong'o's Maz Kanta. There haven't been any whispers of an extra Han Solo scene, so that will be interesting. The extra footage involving Rey could be related to her Force vision, as we know a lightsaber duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader was cut from the final sequence.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is expected to become available on DVD and Blue-ray sometime this spring.
