During the live Oscars red carpet broadcast on Sunday night, popular beauty site TotalBeauty.com accidently tweeted out a photo of Whoopi Goldberg mistaking her for Oprah Winfrey.
"We had no idea @Oprah was #tatted, and we love it," the tweet read, alongside a shot of Goldberg, 60, in her gorgeous black gown showing off her bold shoulder tattoo.
The tweet was up for about an hour before the site finally realized its cringe-worthy mistake and deleted it, according to Buzzfeed. Total Beauty did not apologize or explain what happened, but the tweet did not go unnoticed as more than 3,000 people retweeted it.
There were also several responses, and people were not happy with the mix up. "Damn. Is it really that hard to tell us apart @TotalBeauty. How sad and embarrassing," one user wrote. "Come on @TotalBeauty There are only a few of us there smh Sorry @WhoopiGoldberg," another added.
This is not the first mistake Total Beauty made during Oscars coverage, either, according to Bustle. It referred to "Good Morning America" host Lara Spencer as singer-songwriter Claudia Leitte, although the tweet has since been deleted, and it tweeted out a photo of Carlize Theron from the 2014 red carpet, stating how great she looked this year.
Several sites are not pleased with the Winfrey/Goldberg mistake. "All Black people do not look alike - not even the rich, famous and powerful ones. Great, and now that we've straightened that out, someone just needs to tell the social media team at TotalBeauty.com," Essence wrote. "Do better, guys. Winfrey is internationally recognizable. There's just no excuse."
