Acer is going cheap again with its Chromebook lineup and offering an all-new touch-screen Chromebook for $300.
The company has already broken the low-cost barrier for Chromebooks when it launched its C720 and C720-2848 models. It doesn't surprise us that the Taiwanese PC maker has done it all over again with another cost effective offer.
Acer announced its first touch-screen Chromebook Tuesday that "allows customers to use gestures such as swipe, tap and pinch to zoom to interact in a natural way with the Chromebook so they can better enjoy educational apps, browse websites, scroll through Google Docs, play games and more." The all-new C720P is a follow-up to its low-cost non-touch Acer C720 Chromebook, which was announced in October.
Acer's new Chromebook features an 11.6-inch touch-screen display with a vibrant 1366x768 screen resolution and like its older cousins, the C720P is based on Intel's latest Haswell micro-architecture and has 32 GB SSD. This allows less than 7 seconds boot time, up to 7.5 hours of battery life and quick resume from sleep. Acer has also added 2GB RAM, Wi-Fi, two USB ports, HDMI ports and SD card slot built into Acer C720P's 2.98 pounds, 0.78-inch thick chassis.
"Our new touchscreen C720P gives customers an intuitive way to browse sites online, enjoy apps, and do more with the Chromebook," Arif Maskatia, CTO for Acer, said in a press release."The Acer C720 Chromebook line has been praised for its performance and battery life, and this new touchscreen model allows us to address the needs of an even wider range of customers with exciting new capabilities. We're certain many holiday shoppers will jump at the chance to get a touchscreen Chromebook for just $299.99."
Acer's latest finger-friendly Chromebook will be available at Best Buy, Amazon and through Acer's online store starting next month. Acer C720 is a great buy for those who are shopping for a touch PC for a low price, provided your world revolves around the Internet. Given these highly commendable features, C720P sure has a good shot at attracting buyers from Chromebook Pixel's $1,300 and others with higher price tags.
