Anthem Of The Seas: Storm-Battered Ship Cuts Voyage Short Once More

For the second time this month, Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas, one of the company's newest and most advanced cruise liners, will be cutting its journey short, this time after reports of a norovirus outbreak and yet another threat of a storm, according to the Associated Press.

Earlier this year, the Anthem of the Seas encountered an extremely powerful Atlantic storm on Feb. 6, damaging the vessel and traumatizing the passengers with 30-foot waves and 150 mph winds.

During the onslaught of the storm, the vessel's 4,500 passengers were confinded to their quarters for hours, as the ship rocked back and forth, at one point tilting a full 45 degrees due to the intensity of the storm, reports The Daily Mail.

After being repaired, the Anthem sailed once more, though on Saturday Royal Caribbean has announced that the cruise liner would not be going to its last two stops in Barbados and St. Kitts due to an impending storm in the area.

Apart from the impending storm, a norovirus outbreak has also been reported within the vessel, though the number of people affected by the virus remains unknown as of writing, reports USA Today.

John Turell, an Associated Press executive who is among the passengers in the Anthem's latest cruise, stated that ship's staff are doing all they could in order to contain the norovirus outbreak.

"Sanitation levels on the ship have been boosted, and ship workers are scurrying around like ants, scrubbing down handrails, tables and any other surfaces that can be washed," he said.
