Last year, Swedish model Konrad Annerud made headlines for looking exactly like a young Leonardo DiCaprio. The 21-year-old bartender and musician's Instagram gained a lot of attention because people couldn't believe how much he looked like DiCaprio in the '90s with his slicked-back dirty blonde hair, blue eyes and bad-boy vibe.
Now that Annerud has become a social media sensation, he's officially signed his first modeling contract and landed his first major gig. The young star shared the exciting news that he's now a part of the Ralph Lauren lookbook for Barneys New York, along with some of the official modeling photos, with his 230,000 Instagram followers last week.
"Lookbook now live. @ralphlauren for @barneysman on Barneys.com," he captioned one shot. "Head over to thewindow.barneys.com and check out the story!" he then captioned another black-and-white photo on which he looks extremely similar to DiCaprio.
The official Instagram account for the men of Barneys New York also shared a few dapper shots from his shoot. "Modern Classic: Bold elegance and refined masculinity refine the innovative new look of @RalphLauren Purple Label," one caption of Annerud, in a suit and tie, read. "A new look for @ralphlauren," said another. The resemblance between Annerud and DiCaprio in these photos is really shocking.
While Annerud may be best known in the U.S. for his doppelgänger looks, he's also an incredible singer and dancer. Some have even compared him to his idol Michael Jackson, and he wants the world to know this about him. When people first started talking about how much he looked like DiCaprio, though, he wasn't expecting all the hype that came with it.
"When the first paper posted it, my phone started to ring and it didn't stop," he said "They were calling my mom and my relatives and friends, and I thought, 'Wow, this is getting too big for me.'"
Now that he's landed this major gig modeling Ralph Lauren's re-imagined version of its legendary Purple Label, he understands that it's most likely just his looks and the fact that he resembles someone as big as DiCaprio that got him where he is today.
"It's positive," he said of all the attention. "Even if all people talk about is the fact that I'm a look-alike, f--k those guys, I'm here in NYC modeling."
