Stun Gun Cell Phone Case Could Become Latest Defense Mechanism Against Attackers [VIDEOS]

While your cell phone may already be a great way to feel safe when walking alone or call 9-1-1 at the click of a button, by the time the cops arrive a lot of damage could already be done. In just a matter of seconds, your life could be put at risk, but new technology is looking for useful ways to help people feel safe at all times.

One company is looking to make cell phones, the one item most people have in their hands or pocket at all times, more effective in helping people defend themselves should a scary situation involving a mugger or attacker arise.

The 247 Security Volt cell phone case could become a life-changing, and life-saving, device for those who live in unsafe areas or often find themselves having to walk alone. The cell phone case doubles as a 50,000-volt stun device, which is the same level as a police taser, and comes with an accompanying app that can only be activated by fingerprint. The app not only controls the stun gun but also calls authorities as soon as it's activated, sends your GPS location to the cops, texts your friends and even starts recording a video of whatever's going down for evidence.

Since it is programmed to your fingerprint, it cannot be used against you. The case even charges phones to ensure that users have full battery at all times. While it is illegal in several countries for people under the age of 18 to carry stun gun devices, the company is developing a pepper spray version for teenagers.

The stun gun case itself isn't an entirely new item, as Yellow Jacket released something similar a few years ago, but it is the upgraded technology and app compatibility that make 247 Security's case stand out. As of now, the Yellow Jacket, which is a bulkier, rubber case, is only available for iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and 5S but not the latest 6 and 6S phones.

The Volt is set to be released in the U.S. and Korea this July for $150. It will be compatible for Samsung Galaxy phones and iPhones.
