New York Knicks: Melo Has Stepped Up Rebounding, But Where is the Rest of the Team?; 2013-2014 Early Season Review

The Knicks are not having the season many fans envisioned before the 2013-2014 campaign began. Injuries, effort and a lack of personnel have been the topics of conversation in the month of November. Here is the early season review:

Stats:

27th in points per game at 92.2

27th in rebounds per game at 40. 3

24th in Assists per game at 19.5

12th in points allowed at 98.9

Starting Lineup:

PG Raymond Felton: 11.2 ppg, 5.4 apg

SG Iman Shumpert: 7.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.6 spg

SF Carmelo Anthony: 26.5 ppg, 10.1 rpg

PF Andrea Bargani: 14.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg

PF Kenyon Martin: 4.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg

Thumbs Up:

Carmelo Anthony is having one of the best seasons of his career. He's at the top of the league in points per game (as usual). However, it's his rebounding that has drawn some attention. The 10.1 rebounds per game show Melo is trying hard to make up for Chandler's absence in some capacity. As a team the Knicks are in the top half of the league in points allowed.

Thumbs Down:

Carmelo Anthony seems to be the only person rebounding for the Knicks. It's apparent Tyson Chandler's absence is having a large effect since the Knickerbockers are in the league's bottom three rebounding teams. Outside of Melo, the Knicks have struggled to score. They were an exceptional three-point shooting team last season and now they are 25th at 32.8 percent. If the Knicks are going to save their 3-11 season, they need to get more rebounding, find wherever it is their three-point shooting went and, maybe most importantly-get Tyson Chandler back.
