The supply of PlayStation 4 has fallen short of the unprecedented demand. The more disappointing fact is PS4 buyers, who ordered the consoles post Nov. 14, might not receive it before Christmas, claims the company.
PlayStation 4 was released in the United States two weeks ago and within 24 hours nearly one million consoles were sold off. Many buyers looking to get the console this week had to return empty-handed, according to a recent post on Slashgear.
Many people, who pre-ordered the console from Walmart and Target, are yet to pick them up and some desperate gamers are demanding that the retailers sell them.
The European scenario is not much different. The PlayStation 4 made its debut yesterday and is already facing inventory problems. The consoles pre-ordered in August have already sold out and there are chances that gamers who ordered the consoles post Nov. 14 will be receiving them after Christmas.
"Every pre-order that was made up until a week or two ago is definitely safe for pre-Christmas. There was a cut off with a few retailers where, if you pre-ordered from that point on, you are likely to get your unit post Christmas," said Fergal Gara, the head of Sony Computer entertainment (Ireland and UK), in an interview to vg247.
Amazon has already come up with an official statement for those who have ordered the console after Nov. 13 saying that they will be receiving their consoles post Christmas, reveals a recent post on BBC.
The only good news is that Sony has managed to get another supply of PS4S, which might save the company from total chaos. However, it's still not clear whether Sony will offer these consoles to serve the pre-orders or to the retailers.
Some online fraudsters are offering PS4s at much cheaper rates, even for markets where the console has not yet been launched. "To avoid falling victim to the latest online scams, consumers need to remember that if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is," said Haydn Simpson, the director of NetNames, a company that deals with brand reputations.
