Adele took time out of her busy world tour schedule to make a young fan's dream come true. Rebecca Gibney is a 12-year-old girl from Belfast, Ireland, living with three serious illnesses, but her mom Tracy said there's one thing that makes her smile - Adele's music.
The 27-year-old English powerhouse kicked off her Adele Live 2016 world tour with two gigs at the SSE Arena in Belfast, a city in Northern Ireland. When Tracy learned that Adele would be visiting the city, she started a Facebook page and online campaign to facilitate a meet and greet for little Rebecca to meet her pop idol. Months passed without any confirmation - until Tracy got a surprise phone call Tuesday afternoon, just hours before Adele's second concert.
"I was sitting in the hairdresser today and the manager called and said, 'Tracy, it's Adele's manager. I am getting back to you because Adele has seen your Rebecca's pictures and she was very emotional and she wants to come and meet your daughter,'" Tracy told Belfast Live.
Adele visited the family's home in Short Strand, an area in Belfast. The "Hello" singer sat next to Rebecca's bed and posed for photos, which Tracy posted to the "Help Make Rebecca's Dream Come True To Meet Adele" Facebook page.
Niall Ó Donnghaile, the former Lord Mayor of Belfast, also shared photos from Adele's visit with Rebecca on Twitter and thanked the pop star.
"Thank you so much @Adele for visiting the beautiful Rebecca in the Short Strand today. Made her & Tracy's year!!" he wrote.
In the shots, Adele smiled while sitting next to Rebecca, who is bed-ridden with illness. The 12-year-old suffers from cerebral palsy and epilepsy, plus she is also blind. One of Rebecca's former teachers wrote a letter posted to the Facebook page describing the young girl's struggle with her illnesses, saying doctors determined last Christmas that Rebecca would only have six months to live.
"It's amazing. I'll never forget it. And I do know that when Rebecca passes away she did get her dream come true," Tracy told the BBC. "It's made me feel like I'm the best mummy in the world, which I never felt. Adele told me I was the best mummy in the world too."
