There's a newly opened cafe in Manchester, United Kingdom, that's willing to pay for a cat nanny. But before you send in your application, you should know that there are some stiff requirements for the job. The willingness to cuddle and play with cats is only part of it.
The cafe, aptly called Cat Cafe Manchester, is managed by sisters Ellie and Sophie Close, who are also looking for a store manager and barista before the establishment officially opens in June. Theirs is not the first cat cafe in Britain, but it is first one to publicly look for a cat nanny.
"We want it to be warm comfy and a good place for stress relief," Ellie Close said. "The cats will live there and will even have a cat nanny. Our cats are ridiculously needy so they like a lot of attention."
The sisters opened a Facebook group to field applications until the end of April. Among the stipulations for the jobs, the cat nanny should ideally feed, groom, clean the litter trays and play with the cats. However, the sisters also ask that the person must ensure that the pets follow house rules and develop activities "to keep the cats environment interesting and new."
The job pays £8 per hour (about $11.26) and the nannies are expected to work in shifts when the cafe is open between 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The sisters note that their cats have different personalities given that they are of different breeds. "People will be able to learn about the breeds and about the individual cats. They'll even have their own Twitter profiles." The job post did say that they want the cat nanny to be computer literate, which means some social media managing skills could also be a plus for the applicants.
The Close sisters were inspired to set up the cat cafe after visiting a similar place in Edinburgh in 2015. "I thought it was amazing. It basically combines my two loves - cats and business," Ellie said. "The place will be built for the cats. It'll be a bit of a cat heaven."
