Although she's been exceedingly honest with her fans and the general public about her struggles with bipolar disorder, self-harm and an eating disorder, singer Demi Lovato is still nervous to write her memoir.
The "X-Factor" judge recently signed a multiple book deal with Macmillan Publishers. Her first book, a collection of inspirational quotes and goals, "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year," is set to top the New York Times Bestseller List this week, and although she's expressed excitement at being a published author, the star shared her fears in a new interview with USA Today.
"I'm nervous to share my story. But the last time I did, people were really respectful and nobody judged me," Lovato said. "Sometimes I have to ask myself, 'How honest do I really want to be with this book?' But I think I'm going to do it. I think I'm going to go for it. Sometimes I have to ask myself, 'How honest do I really want to be with this book?' But I think I'm going to do it. I think I'm going to go for it."
As for "Staying Strong," the "Heart Attack" singer shared that each page of the book "relates to the day, and just reminds [her] to be thankful."
From the release of her new album "Demi" to acting as a judge and mentor on the third season of the U.S. "The X-Factor" and guest-starring on "Glee," Lovato does have quite a lot to be thankful for, and even though Simon Cowell made her and her fellow judges work on Thanksgiving, Lovato gave it a positive spin, as she was able to perform her new single "Neon Lights" on the holiday.
As for her next book, Lovato admitted during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that she's "battling with internal thoughts on how honest [she] should be."
"Yes, I've been very honest, but if people really knew how dark and deep my struggles got - not just with my eating disorder but with drugs and alcohol - they'd be really shocked," the star said. "But I'll most likely end up saying everything. Maybe it'll help other people in the industry who are headed down the wrong path."
