The Los Angeles Rams cut linebacker James Laurinaitis back in February as they looked to create cap space this offseason, and the former second round draft pick is creating some interest among NFL franchises.
Laurinaitis is heading into his eighth season in the league and has reportedly already met with the Saints this offseason. The 6-foot-2, 248-pound linebacker has recorded 100-plus combined tackles every season since entering the league and hasn't missed a start since being drafted in 2009.
The Saints aren't the only team showing interest in the former Rams linebacker, as the Atlanta Falcons are reportedly scheduled to meet with him this upcoming week. The Falcons finished with an 8-8 record under first year head coach Dan Quinn, and the defensive minded coach is definitely look to improve his defense, as they gave up the 19th most points in the league last season.
Laurinaitis could be a strong addition to the Falcons defense in 2016 and could have a significant impact at the middle of their defense. He is a valuable asset in the league not only for his ability to cover the entire field, but for being a leader on and off the field, and he can bring a strong presence to a locker room. The former Rams linebacker had a down season for himself last season with 109 combined tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception, but he is still considered one of the top 99 free agents on the market this offseason.
Falcons starting middle linebacker Paul Worrilow is set to be a restricted free agent, but Atlanta's front office seems open to a change, as there have also been reports that the Falcons are interested in Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan, who is scheduled to become a free agent this upcoming week.
Atlanta is looking to build their defense under Quinn, and the Falcons may look to make some significant acquisitions through free agency this offseason, as they currently have the 13th most cap space in the league. Atlanta's front office will likely be looking to bolster their defense both through the draft and free agency this offseason, as they are looking to put together a team that can contend in 2016.
