The Vampire Diaries CW Season 5: Tyler's Transfer to 'The Originals' Was a Great Move; Review After First 8 Episodes

This season of "The Vampire Diaries" has given us even more doppelgangers, the anchor and people called travelers. Here's a review of the season so far:

THUMBS UP:

The introduction of new mythology has been interesting this year. As mentioned before we've gotten to meet a different type of witch called a traveler. We now understand the anchor is a person and not a thing. We also the met the charming Qetsiya/Tessa. The highlight of the season was probably having three Nina Dobrev's in one room. Having Tyler travel to "The Originals" was one of the best decisions made this season. His story had been all about Klaus and since Klaus moved then he had to move. Although Tyler didn't stick around for long and his goodbye to Caroline was quite short, it didn't seem rushed or unrealistic. The splitting up of the seasons into two big bads could be fun to watch. Silas had his run and now it's time to see where Dr. Maxfield and his organization takes Damon and any other vampires they have under their control.

THUMBS DOWN:

I didn't quite understand Matt's storyline. The traveler inside him was sort of there for a second and then gone. It seemed as if his possession was going to be a big deal and it turns out it was not? Also, Silas' demise (if he is in fact dead) was also anti-climactic. For the magnitude of character he was, he should had a much greater end to his life. But then again, the writers may be leaving the possibility of his return open.

"The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW.
