Makeup artist Joyce Bonelli is the secret weapon to the Kardashians, and the sisters go to her for all things beauty. Bonelli has been working with the stars of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" since she met Kim Kardashian at a photoshoot in 2005, and has all the tricks of the trade when it comes to the sisters' signature sculpted contour. Bonelli spilled the beans and said that the secret behind Kim, Khloé and Kourtney's look is a three-step process called "3-D Tanning."
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Bonelli said that she and Marissa Carter, the founder of bronzing brand Cocoa Brown, developed a technique uses three products to make the face look defined. Bonelli and Carter both insist that the technique is simple and can be done without the use of a professional makeup artist.
"Anyone can follow these three simple steps to achieve a tan that looks natural, will increase your body confidence and give your skin a luminous glow," Bonelli said.
"It's all about sculpting the body to add silhouettes and luminosity to your skin," she continued. "I use this technique on my clients all the time and it's so easy for those at home to do."
While the 3-D tanning technique may give fans of the Kardashains the perfect cheekbones, the process can take up to three hours to complete. The first step is to apply a tanning mouse to the body using a mitt. Bonelli suggested waiting one hour for the mouse to dry for a light glow, two hours for a more bronzed look and three hours for a deep tan before washing it off in the shower.
The second step is to use a bronzing gel to sculpt the face to make the tan look more natural. Using a foundation brush, apply the gel to the face where the sun would naturally hit it - the tip of the nose, the sides of the cheek and the top of the forehead. The third and final step is to use a shimmering dry body oil on the cheekbones and temples for a shimmering glow.
While the 3-D tanning process can take a lot longer to complete than a contour, the results last for much longer.
