Microsoft 'Smart Bra': Lingerie To Help Women Become More Aware Of Their Eating Habits (PHOTO)

Microsoft is developing a "smart bra" to monitor its wearer's food intake and emotional state throughout the day.

According to Mashable, the wearable tech will have built-in sensors that will tell you how you're feeling when you "overeat" and send your smartphone warnings when it thinks you're about to annihilate a party-sized bag of Doritos.

The bra reportedly needs to be recharged every three to four hours, but is 75 percent accurate in recording the emotional state of the female wearer. The female participants in the study would keep a diary of their moods and researchers were able to correlate their mood with their eating habits.

"This is the first study, that we are aware of, that makes use of wearable, mobile sensors for detecting emotions," the research team said in a statement. "The bra form-factor was ideal because it allowed us to collect EKG [activity] near the heart."

According to a TechnologyTell.com, participants were more likely to develop better eating habits if they were made aware of their "stress-eating." This would especially prove to be true during the holiday season, where many tend to over indulge in comfort foods and not-so-healthy snack items.

"I was eating without being aware of it, but by having to log both my eating habits and my emotions, I became aware of triggers for emotional eating, and also more aware of the health (or lack thereof) in my diet," one participant said in the study.

Microsoft researchers are also testing the technology for men, exploring the idea of creating "smart" boxers or briefs. However, they found male undergarments are too far way from the heart to be an accurate measurement.

"[Another] thing the researchers haven't tested yet is whether an alert informing you that you're in an overeating mood - which the paper describes as an 'appropriately timed, personalized intervention' - will actually make much of a difference," Mashable reported.
