University of New Haven Shooter Had Two Pistols, Assault Rifle and Newspaper Clippings on Mass Killings in Fairfield Apartment

University of New Haven officials announced on Wednesday that the suspected shooter arrested on campus had two pistols, an assault rifle and news articles about shootings at his house.

22-year-old UNH student William Dong was brought into police custody on Tuesday, after reports that the young man was roving around campus wielding a firearm caused the entire school to be placed on lockdown, TIME reported.

Dong received multiple charges of illegal weapon possession and breach of peace, according to the West Haven police, who spoke with the Associated Press.

Dong reportedly has the proper paperwork for owning the handguns. He is currently being held by law enforcement on $500,000 bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.

After searching Dong's Fairfield home for about an hour and a half on Tuesday night, police exited the residence with a single plastic tub in tow. The evidence found inside the house included newspaper stories on mass killings and ammunition, along with the various firearms.

The campus was locked down at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, as police combed through the main campus looking for the man who was said to be walking around with a rifle. The north and south areas of the campus had previously been cleared. Evening classes were canceled, according to AP.

Around 6,400 students attend UNH. Most of the 4,600 undergraduates live in university-owned housing.
