The man who allegedly killed a Transportation Security Administration officer and wounded three others after spraying rounds of bullets into a terminal at the Los Angeles International Airport last month appeared in court on Wednesday.
23-year-old Paul Ciancia made his first public appearance since the Nov. 1 attack at LAX's Terminal 3, the Associated Press reported.
When he arrived at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where he's currently being kept in the custody of law enforcement, Ciancia reportedly had bruises on his face and a bandage on neck. He didn't say much, according to AP - cuffed at the hands and feet, Ciancia chose not to enter a plea bargain concerning the murder charge that could potentially leave him with a death sentencing if he's found guilty.
Ciancia was said to have targeted TSA officers during his rampage at LAX, which left agent Gerardo Hernandez dead and three others injured.
The 23-year-old entered Terminal 3 at the airport on Nov. 1, pulled an assault rifle out of a duffel bag and fired multiple times at Hernandez. According to the autopsy, 39-year-old Hernandez was shot 12 times. Bullets grazed his heart and struck his bladder and intestines, AP stated.
Ciancia then fired at two other TSA employees, leaving them seriously injured. He walked through security to the gate's waiting area, when airport police stopped him by shooting him four times, including a shot to the mouth.
Ciancia currently faces multiple murder charges, and could be sentenced to death if he's convicted.
