Tens years after "That '70s Show" ended, Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson will reunite in the new Netflix series "The Ranch." The former co-stars will play brothers living and working on their father's ranch in Colorado.
Kutcher plays Colt, who returns home after a failed, semi-pro football career to help run the family ranching business with his older brother Jameson "Rooster," played by Masterson. Sam Elliot stars as their father beau, who Colt has not seen in 15 years. Debra Winger plays the boys' mother Maggie, who runs the local town bar.
"Our relationship is contentious, but the history of Danny and my friendship bleeds into the characters," Kutcher, 38, told Entertainment Weekly in January. "They're best friends, but they f-ing hate each other."
The official trailer reveals Colt hasn't quite given up on his dream to play football, even at age 34, to the dismay of his father. He does, however, find one reason to stick around when he meets a girl from his past, Heather, played by Kelli Goss, at the bar.
The multi-camera comedy will premiere on Friday, April 1 on Netflix. The series also reunites Kutcher with his "Two and a Half Men" co-showrunners, Don Reo and Jim Patterson, who created "The Ranch."
Netflix will introduce a new release schedule for the Kutcher-Masterson comedy. The streaming service ordered a total of 20 episodes and will release 10 episodes at a time with the second batch coming later this year. It's also the second multi-cam comedy for Netflix following "Fuller House," which premiered last month.
"A lot of the show plays outdoors, which is unconventional for a sitcom," Kutcher said. "We're breaking a bunch of rules, but at the same time, it's a sitcom about fathers and sons, and what it's like to live in that town you just want to get out of."
This isn't the first on-screen reunion for the longtime friends. Kutcher guest starred on Masterson's TBS comedy "Men At Work" in 2013. They also join a Netflix family that includes another "That '70s Show" alum, Laura Prepon, who stars on "Orange Is the New Black.
The complete first season of "The Ranch" starts streaming on Friday, April 1 on Netflix.
