The Dallas Cowboys continue to focus on their own players in free agency, as they have resigned versatile linebacker Kyle Wilber and offensive lineman Charles Brown. Wilber has been one of the best special teamers on the roster and always gives a solid performance as a linebacker.
Wilber is tied for the team lead in special teams tackles with nine, and he has shown incredible awareness as one of the leaders of that unit. He was resigned to a two-year contract, as the fourth rounder has found a roster spot in Dallas.
The 26-year-old becomes the second linebacker signed by the Cowboys during this free agency period, as Rolando McClain resigned with the team on the first day of NFL free agency. The Cowboys will now bring back all of their starting linebackers for the 2016 season, which takes care of one positional need.
With all of these linebackers signed, it is safe to say that they will not be targeting Myles Jack in the 2016 NFL Draft. The resigning of Charles Brown means that the Cowboys will retain their primary backup for Tyron Smith and Doug Free. Brown and Chaz Green should compete for the swing tackle job this offseason.
The 28-year-old went to USC with Tyron Smith and has great chemistry with the rest of this offensive line. Brown was vital when third-round pick Chaz Green was recovering from hip surgery he had done in the offseason. The Cowboys are clearly focused on resigning the players from their roster, who have hit free agency (except Greg Hardy).
Dallas has signed one player who wasn't originally with the Cowboys, and that was Cedric Thornton, the starting defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles. His arrival might mark the end of perennial defensive tackle Nick Hayden's run in Dallas.
Hayden is 30 years old and pretty ineffective at generating pressure, so Thornton is a significant upgrade. The Cowboys will also have to decide whether or not to resign full back Tyler Clutts, defensive end Jack Crawford, strong safety Danny McCray, defensive end Jeremy Mincey or cornerback Morris Claiborne.
Other NFL teams have shown interest in Lance Dunbar, James Hanna and Efe Obada, so this will likely prevent Dallas from resigning them. The Cowboys will still need to address needs at cornerback, wide receiver, along the defensive line, and at running back.
