Florida Woman Attacked by Bear Expected to Live, Wildlife Officials Catch Mammal Potentially Involved in Attack (VIDEO)

Authorities said the Florida woman who was attacked by a bear while walking her dogs on Monday night will most likely live through her injuries.

According to the International Business Times, the 54-year-old woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center shortly after 8 p.m. earlier this week in Longwood for facial wounds and heavy bleeding. But she is currently said to be in stable condition, and will be kept at the hospital in the coming days.

Wildlife officials announced on Wednesday that they captured a female bear cub in a trap Tuesday night, but they are skeptical that the mammal was involved in the mauling.

"I don't know if this is the bear," Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation biologist Mike Orlando told the Orlando Sentinel. "We need to make sure we catch the right bear."

Officials from the FWC discovered the bear cub in one of the trio of traps set up close to English Ivy Court in the Wingfield North subdivision, the Sentinel reported. A fourth trap has been set, with carrot cake as the bait. Police said they would keep an eye on the immediate area in the next few days for any more bear sightings.

The captured bear was transported to a facility for animals, where scientists logged measurements and took hair and blood samples. The bear weighed between 75 and 100 pounds, and authorities are currently testing the DNA as part of the investigation.
