Almost Human: Show Lacking Attention to Overall Story; Early Seaon Review of FOX's New Series

"Almost Human" has brought us an interesting combination of craftsmanship (as in the robots) and comedy. Let's review FOX's newest show:

THUMBS UP:

The relationship between Detective Kennex (Karl Urban) and Dorian (Michael Ealy) has provided some good laughs. I will admit most of the good jokes are made by Dorian but Kennex provides his fair share. The creativity in which the synthetics were formed are also impressive. The blue on the side of the face and the synthetics capabilities are something you might dream about as a kid if you're creating a robot superhero. The robot acting has also been great. Michael Ealy's ability to play both a robot and a human at the same time has been superb. We have to realize how difficult it is to act as if you have no human emotions and human emotions all at the same time. Props, Mr. Ealy, props.

THUMBS DOWN:

One of the things that have irked me about this series is the lack of attention to its overall backstory. The show has only been four episodes deep. However, for the previous two episodes "Almost Human" has ignored the betrayal of Kennex's girlfriend. There's nothing wrong with attacking a new villain every week. However, one of the factors that have made new shows such as "The Blacklist" so good is the way the writers slightly appease your appetite. Each episode they give you a little bit more about the overall plot. (Although "The Blacklist" has more than one plot). Again, I understand we are only four episodes in but currently "Almost Human" is seems to be a regular cop show that happens to take place in the future.

"Almost Human" airs Mondays at 8/7c on FOX. Share your comments below.
