‘Captain America: Civil War’ Spoilers: Main Character Being Killed Off?

Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War."

Just last week Marvel unveiled the second full-length trailer for the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War," giving fans their first taste of Tom Holland's Spider-Man and another action-packed glimpse of what's to come. The trailer is generating so much buzz, in fact, that it has already been viewed upwards of 100 million times. But that wasn't the only appetizing morsel Marvel used to whet our appetites.

During Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards Saturday night, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans unveiled yet another new trailer for the highly anticipated superhero showdown. While the majority of footage had already been made public, there were a few quick scenes of never before seen content. Splicing through the new trailer image by image, some sharp eyed fans noticed a potentially massive spoiler.

Again, read ahead at your own peril just in case.

At the 2:40 mark of the new trailer fans saw Cap squaring off against Iron Man. No shock there considering the entire movie revolves around their conflict. However, in the background we can see what appears to be Bucky Barners AKA The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), whose metal arm has been torn clean off (we assume by Iron Man). This has led some fans to believe that Bucky will be killed off in "Civil War."

Remember, this is all just speculation at this point and none of this is confirmed. But it does make sense.

In the comics (warning: more spoilers ahead), Captain America himself loses his life at the conclusion of the "Civil War" storyline. However, since we know Evans is confirmed to be appearing in the "Avengers: Infinity War" series, we don't know how Marvel would kill off his character and then bring him back without getting to comic book-y for casual moviegoers. That has led to speculation regarding what other characters may be sacrificed for the sake of narrative in "Civil War."

Marvel has long been criticized for its lack of dramatic stakes on the big screen. If you really want to get nitpicky, no one ever dies in their movies except the bad guys and even then Loki always seems to figure out a way to return. Killing off one of the good guys would go a long way in establishing some emotional depth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bucky, while liked by audiences, isn't essential for the MCU's continued existence and while we're no experts, we can't imagine getting your arm ripped off is good for your long-term health, even if it's only a robotic appendage.

Lucky for us, we'll find out one way or the other what his fate is when "Captain America: Civil War" hits theaters on May 6.
