Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is expected to comment on Thursday after being cleared of any wrongdoing by the state attorney. The press conference, called by Winston's attorney, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Watch the live stream HERE.
State Attorney Willie Meggs announced on Thursday that prosecutors would not charge Winston for allegedly sexually assaulting an FSU student on Dec. 7, 2012. Meggs cited a lack of evidence as the reason no charges were filed.
Tim Jansen, the attorney for Winston, plans to have Winston appear for a press conference and comment on the case. Jansen will hold the presser at the Hotel Duval at 7 p.m., according to Fox News.
"He will not answer specific questions but he will make a comment," Jansen said, via the Miami Herald.
Jansen also described Winston's reaction upon hearing the case is officially closed.
"He was very happy," Jansen said, via USA Today Sports. "I can say he gave me a hug. It was not relief, because he knew he didn't do anything."
Winston released a brief statement on Thursday after Meggs announced his decision not to prosecute the potential Heisman winner (via ESPN):
"I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for standing by me during a difficult time. I also want to thank the State Attorney's Office for examining all of the facts and reaching a decision in a conclusive manner. It's been difficult to stay silent through this process, but I never lost faith in the truth and in who I am. I'm very relieved I'll be able to continue my education at Florida State and I'm excited I can now get back to helping our team achieve its goals."
