Two of the NFL's worst teams meet in primetime on Thursday. It's been a tough, dramatic fall for the Texans after going 12-4 last season and reaching the divisional playoffs. Now Houston sits at the bottom of the AFC South, one game behind third-place Jacksonville.
"(It is) very humbling to go from truly visualizing you being in the Super Bowl to you being the worst team in the league ... but it isn't going to stop our fight," Texans defensive end Antonio Smith said, via ESPN.
The Texans are having their worst season since finishing 2-14 in 2005, according to ESPN.
"I wouldn't say it feels the same," Texans receiver Andre Johnson said. "Back then I don't think we had a good football team like we have now as far as talent-wise. This season has been disappointing for everybody - a lot of frustration."
Things haven't been much better for the Jaguars. Jacksonville (3-9) hasn't had a winning season since finishing 11-5 in 2007. They've improved by one game from last season's 2-14 record and appear destined for another high draft pick in April.
The team has at least shown life in the recent weeks, winning three of their last four games - including a 13-6 win on Nov. 24 at Houston. Opponents who've lost to the Jaguars, including Houston and Tennessee, characterized the defeats as embarrassing.
"I couldn't care less what (our opponents) think," said Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts. "It's the NFL. You're going to win or lose each week. You've got to bring your best that week.
"For us, we're getting better. We've been 3-1 since the bye week, so if they've got a problem with it, come see us."
