With so many celebrities - specifically the Kardashians - having successful reality and documentary series on E!, the network now has plans to give Mariah Carey her very own show to allow viewers access into her private world.
The 45-year-old singer already began filming the eight-episode documentary series called "Mariah's World." The docuseries will follow the pop diva and mother of two as she begins her Sweet Sweet Fantasy world tour, plans her wedding to her new billionaire fiancé James Packer and raises her adorable 4-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan.
"I'm excited to bring my fans into my life for the next journey I'm about to embark on," Carey said. "I'm already having so much fun with this documentary and I know you will too. There is nothing like capturing these moments."
The Grammy-winning singer and the popular network has teamed up with Bunim/Murray, which will produce the series.
"Mariah is one of the most captivating pop superstars of our time and one of the rare artists whose first name alone is instantly recognized around the globe," said Jeff Olde, executive vice president of programming and development. "We're excited to partner with Bunim/Murray Productions. The series will present a unique, vulnerable and surprisingly humorous side to Mariah that her friends have never before seen while showcasing her unparalleled, celebrity lifestyle filled with true glamour, maximum luxury and ultimate stardom."
While E! is known for its hit reality shows, Carey wants to make sure people only refer to this as a docuseries and not reality TV.
"I refuse to call it a reality show," she said, adding that the series will be focused on getting to know her better instead of following her every move. "I thought it would be a good opportunity to kind of, like, show my personality and who I am, even though I feel like my real fans have an idea of who I am. A lot of people have misperceptions about this and that."
The series began filming two weeks ago, although it is unclear exactly when it will air. Each episode will be an hour long.
"We haven't seen a star of her level and her history," Olde added.
Even though the show will be sure to focus on some of her motherly duties, she does not want to have her children on screen too much. "I don't want to do anything that's exploitative. They haven't been filmed at all yet," she explained. "There might be a couple of moments, but it's not about making them the stars of the show. They're too young to make that decision."
