Fans of the "X-Men" series can look forward to another film in 2016!
Director Bryan Singer confirmed on his official Twitter account that "X-Men: Apocalypse" will officially be released on May 27, 2016. It's unclear if the likes of Jennifer Lawrence or Michael Fassbender will make an appearance in the future film, but Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role of Wolverine.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Apocalypse is one of the more interesting villains in the X-Men universe. Here's a little snippet about the Marvel villain:
"He's the world's first mutant. Essentially immortal, he was born thousands of years ago, and in his travels around the world, he transformed himself into a superpowered cyborg using alien technology. He has a wide assortment of powers: Telepathy, telekinesis, molecular manipulation (cooler than it sounds), technopathy (less cool than it sounds.) He wants to conquer the world. And eventually, he does: In one of several Really Bad Futures that haunt the X-Men, Apocalypse conquers the planet and rules for a couple thousand years."
The release date comes on the heels of the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" hype. The movie, featuring Lawrence as the sexy Mystique, will hit theaters May 23, 2014. The "Hunger Games" star recently spoke to IGN about her character's growth in the upcoming film.
"We find Raven, she's split off from Eric and Charles and she's kind of her own agent," Lawrence told IGN. "She has one mission of trying to assassinate somebody and it will be her first kill basically, and because we've seen her in the future and what she becomes, this is kind of a turning point for her."
The "X-Men: Days of Future Past" trailer shows an interesting scene with Lawrence an Magneto, which could hint to how Raven became corrupted. Check out the official trailer below.
