Actress Kym Karath slammed NBC's remake of "The Sound of Music." Karath, 55, played Getl von Trapp in the 1965 version of the musical film and tweeted that the remake was actually "painful" to watch, US Weekly reports.
Before the special aired she tweeted that she would be watching it with her former co-stars Charmian Carr (Liesl von Trapp) and Angela Cartwright (Brigitta von Trapp). Not long after the show began the actress was tweeting about how disappointed she was in the remake.
"Mystified and disappointed so far by SOM special. So far only happy with Stephen Moyer," she wrote.
"Must admit some scenes are actually painful to watch," Karath continued.
She even had a few things to say about Carrie Underwood, who played Maria von Trapp.
"Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her. She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong."
She did give the special some praises tweeting that she liked Christian Borle (Max Detweiler) and Laura Benanti (Elsa Schraeder).
"Enjoying scene with Captain, Herr Detweiler & Baroness. All excellent actors," she posted adding "Loving Laura Benanti's performance. Great job."
After the show aired Karath tried to clarify her remarks about the "Blown Away" singer posting on Twitter that she thought Underwood "was brave" for trying to tackle the performance.
"To be clear I love Carrie Underwood. Just not as Maria," Karath wrote. "She was brave to take it on. And this doesn't lessen my respect for her talent."
Despite the criticism Underwood thought her performance was good tweeting "Glory to God tonight... I couldn't be more proud. What a tough thing to pull off and we did it! I am so blessed!!"
Back in November she told Entertainment Weekly that she was already receiving negative comments about the role from fans of Julie Andrews, who was the original Maria.
"I get hate tweets and stuff like, 'You're not Julie Andrews!' I know I'm not Julie. Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was. I know my place," she said adding that she's a fan of her character. "She had this love for nature and this love for the things that God made, this beautiful, the mountains, the music. And I feel that."
