Liverpool Eliminates Manchester United In Europa League; Dortmund Wins Over Tottenham

Liverpool advanced past Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday, moving into the last eight round after drawing at Old Trafford. Borussia Dortmund advanced over Tottenham after winning 2-1 at White Hart Lane.

Liverpool came into the match with a two goal lead from the first leg game, meaning Man United needed to have a strong performance to advance. Anthony Martial scored early in the match to give Manchester a 1-0 lead and a chance, but the team could not add more. Philippe Coutinho scored for Liverpool to put things at 1-1 and that stopped any chance for Man United to catch up.

Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata had chances to add goals for Manchester United, but the club could not convert on those plays. Liverpool dominated the first match and that put Manchester in a tough position to advance after going down at Anfield. Wayne Rooney remained out with a knee injury and United looked like they missed his scoring touch.

The Reds looked good on both sides of the field in the match, and Jurgen Klopp made the right moves in the second half to keep the score at 1-1. Manchester United had more shots and possession in the match, but Liverpool kept the team from scoring enough to advance.

Liverpool advanced 3-1 on aggregate into the last eight and now they await their opponent in the draw. The Spurs were sent home by Dortmund after the team could not do anything at home in the second leg. The team now will be out before the last eight for the third straight season, while Dortmund gets to move on. Dortmund was dominant in this matchup and Tottenham could not get anything going.

Dortmund won 2-1 to advance on aggregate at 5-1 and now they have some momentum heading into the final eight. Tottenham did not have their A-lineup out for this match with the team chasing the Premier League title, giving Dortmund an easy pass. Harry Kane did not play in the game, sitting out for the fifth straight Europa League match.

Emerick Aubameyang has been impressive for Dortmund and had two goals in the match. Dortmund is through along with Liverpool, while the rest of the round has Sevilla, Athletic Bilbao, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sparta Prague, Sporting Braga and Villarreal. The next matchups will be played on April 7 and April 14.
