"The Division" has been off to an amazing start. It broke sales records in the U.K., selling more copies in its first week than any other game released in any year within the same time period, and sold more copies in its first 24 hours than any other new Ubisoft game to date.
The launch had been marred by a few problems, such as connection issues and trolls blocking player progress, but those were largely temporary and easily overlooked. However, while those problems faded, one remained: the PvP area known as the Dark Zone.
Most people dislike the Dark Zone and view it as the one shortcoming of an otherwise stellar game. However one person didn't seem to care - in fact he seemed to be right in his element there, so much so that he made a record. The user in question is named Chaos 3SK, and he now holds the record of being the first to reach the maximum Dark Zone Rank attainable in the current build - which through his efforts has been revealed to be rank 99.
In a post on its website, Ubisoft revealed the news, referring to Chaos 3SK as a "legendary agent."
"The Division, like all other elite units in the world, has its legends," the post reads. "A few Agents that go beyond their call of duty, and prove that it's always possible to push the boundaries and become a true Legend. You probably were wondering what the maximum Level and Dark Zone Rank were in The Division. Well, one of you was the first to find out: Chaos 3SK."
It's a notable to achieve a world-first in any video game, especially one like "The Division" which has become wildly popular despite only being around for a week. However this achievement is magnified due to what that achievement entails: playing the Dark Zone.
A simple Internet search will tell you why the Dark Zone is a place to be feared. It's a combined PvP/PvE zone where, as the term PvP implies, players can attack other players and take their loot - at a price. You can find a range of opinions about the zone, such as some hating it others loving it, or the fact that its premise isn't in line with its execution.
The point in this case however, is that to reach level 99 Dark Zone Rank, you have to intentionally go rogue by attacking another agent and accept all the risks that come with it. For example, after you hit lvl DZR 40, a single death while in accidental rogue status will cost you 16k exp, requiring you to kill 80 to 100 lvl30 mobs just to get it all back.
With that in mind, the amount of time it must have taken him to reach DZR 99 must have been huge, especially when factoring how much time you could lose from a single death. It did, taking him six days. Ubisoft was sure to note that his career began quite early, starting a mere 41 seconds after the game servers went live.
So what's next for Chaos 3SK now that he has this achievement in the bag? Well, he could make a new character and start the process all over again, or he could wait for new content which Ubisoft has slated for the coming year.
