Auburn (11-1, 7-1 SEC) continued its surprise turnaround from last season with a last-second win over Alabama in the Iron Bowl. In the span of one season, the Tigers went from winning only three games to a spot in the SEC championship.
Standing in Auburn's way of the conference title is Missouri, ranked No. 5 in the nation with an 11-1 record.
"We're playing a very good Missouri team that's very similar to us," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn told the Associated Press. "I think about both teams being very hungry. We were both kind of down at the bottom at the start of the year. But we've improved. I feel like we've improved each game. They would probably say the same thing."
Missouri (11-1, 7-1) is looking for its fifth straight win after losing on Oct. 26 to South Carolina. The team is coming off 28-21 win over Texas A&M, and Missouri coach Gary Pinkel can't gush enough about his players' effort.
"We just kep getting better," Pinkel said. "Our kids played hard every single game at a very high level. I've been around a lot of good football teams, but I've rarely been around a team like that, playing at the level they did on a consistent basis."
