Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of being a fan of "American Horror Story" is waiting for the theme of the next season to be revealed. On Sunday, executive producer Ryan Murphy and much of the cast of the previous season of the anthology horror show known as "Hotel" were on stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the "American Horror Story" panel where Murphy revealed he was still deciding between two themes for season six.
Each year, Murphy and his co-executive producer Brad Falchuck typically use the Paley Fest to reveal the theme for the upcoming season and which cast members are returning, but no new information was revealed by the producing team.
"The interesting thing about this season is we've been working on two ideas at once, but I will tell you that every darling person up here that wants to come back can come back," Murphy said, welcoming Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Angela Bassett, Matt Bomer, Finn Wittrock, Cheyenne Jackson and Wes Bently to return for season six.
"I think the show has always felt to me like an opera," said Murphy. "Both things that we're writing right now, we haven't yet declared the winner, will have a different form than we've ever done, so we're excited about that. We'll talk about it soon, but we haven't landed on it."
While Murphy did not provide further details about the two ideas, he did tease one small tidbit of information. When asked about the inclusion of child actors and actresses in "American Horror Story: Hotel," Murphy said both potential ideas include children.
Earlier this year, it was reported that season six of the show would focus on the fictional supernatural character, Slenderman. Slenderman is a tall figure who has a blank face and long arms and is said to stalk and kidnap children. While the legend of Slenderman does have to do with kids, a source close to the show said that those rumors were "not true."
Most of the cast for season six of "American Horror Story" has not been confirmed yet, but Lady Gaga said earlier this month that she would return for a second season, and Bassett also confirmed she would be back again, making it her fourth season on the show.
"American Horror Story" season six is expected to debut in the fall of 2016.
