Katy Perry will add a little pop to the Academy of Country Music Awards when she takes the stage for a can't-miss duet with the legendary Dolly Parton next month. It will be the first time ever the two female singers have performed live together.
The ACM will also honor Parton with the Tex Ritter Award for the NBC television movie, "Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors." Set in 1955 in the Great Smoky Mountains, the TV movie showcased Parton's childhood and how her family struggled with loss, grappled with religion and triumphed with the healing power of love. Alyvia Alyn starred as the young Parton.
The Tex Ritter Award is given to a movie released or received major exposure in the previous year that featured or utilized country music. More than 16 million viewers tuned in to watch "Coat of Many Colors" in December and the movie joins previous award recipients "Beer for My Horses," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," "Country Strong," "Crazy Heart," "O Brother, Where Art Thou," "Sweet Dreams" and "Walk the Line."
Parton recently announced she’s releasing a new double-disc album, “Pure & Simple with Dolly Parton’s Biggest Hits,” and launching a 60-city tour this summer. The concert performances will feature some songs that she has not performed live for years.
The ACM has not announced what song/songs Parton and Perry will perform. They will join a performance lineup that also includes Jason Aldean, Kelea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Cam, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Brett Eldredge, Sam Hunt, Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Chris Young with Cassadee Pope, and Florida Georgia Line.
Aldean, Bryan, Church, Garth Brooks and Miranda Lambert will compete for Entertainer of the Year. Click here for the complete list of nominees.
Bryan and Bentley will co-host the 51st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards set to air live on Sunday, April 3 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
