Multiple NFL franchises are in the market for a quarterback this offseason, but the market for quarterbacks has recently seemed to quiet down, as no major signings or trades for the crucial position have happened in the past week.
While there have been no major trades or signings, that hasn't stopped teams from being heavily involved in the market, as reports surrounding the Jets, Broncos, Browns, and now Rams have been swirling around the league. Browns new head coach Hue Jackson has already made it known that his team is in the market for a quarterback, and with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, many expect them to take either North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz or California quarterback Jared Goff.
The Browns have already met with former Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, as have the Jets, and both the Broncos and the Rams are considering the former Heisman Trophy winner, as well. While Griffin has been the center of much of the discussion regarding quarterbacks in free agency, one quarterback to keep an eye on is the Buccaneers' Mike Glennon.
The Jets have reportedly inquired about the Buccaneers backup quarterback, and Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht has said that the team has drawn interest from several teams. "There's always interest. It's not a secret," Licht said. "There's always some interest. We'll see how it goes. We've got some time and this is something that could go all the way to the draft."
The 26-year-old quarterback is heading into his final year of his contract, and with last year's first overall pick Jameis Winston, the future of the franchise in Tampa Bay, Glennon has become expendable. The Buccaneers backup quarterback has a record of 5-13 as a starter, and he has thrown 29 touchdowns to 15 interceptions in the two seasons he started in Tampa Bay.
The former third round draft pick has shown that he has the arm to play in the league, but he will likely need to prove to a team that he is consistent before he earns himself another starting job. The Jets, Broncos, Browns and Rams could all be in the market for the Buccaneers backup quarterback, but it will likely come down to value, as the Buccaneers front office won't want to give up the talented young quarterback for a cheap trade, as they still value him.
"Right now, we're happy (Glennon) is on out roster," said Licht. "I feel very good about the fact we have two good young quarterbacks."
