Patrick Robinson has had a busy couple of days recently while looking to find a new home with an NFL franchise. Robinson has, and still is, linked to the Dallas Cowboys, but he has apparently changed agents, causing somewhat of a delay in signing the former first rounder. He has apparently agreed to visit the Indianapolis Colts in the meantime.
This could be a power play by Robinson or his new agent to squeeze some more money out of the Cowboys, but for a player who has only 10 starts and one interception during the 2015 season, it seems highly doubtful. The Cowboys would likely have more of a use for Robinson than the Colts, and both teams had a rough season in 2015.
The lights would be bigger in Dallas, and Robinson could find himself in a similar situation as Brandon Carr if the Cowboys attempt to overpay for his services. The Colts are in need of a cornerback, as several members of their secondary are free agents. The Colts need someone to line up across from star cornerback Vontae Davis, and if the Colts cannot re-sign Greg Toler, then they will have to look at Robinson or at the top prospects in the draft.
The Colts secondary was not dominant by any means. However, they could become formidable with the addition of Robinson and an early draft pick. With the Cowboys, Robinson would likely line up next to Morris Claiborne, as the returning Orlando Scandrick should take over slot corner duties. The Cowboys recently drafted a cornerback in combine freak Byron Jones, though they appear to feel that his talents are best suited for the free safety role in this secondary.
It is hard to imagine that a bidding war erupts between the Cowboys and the Colts, considering both teams will likely add another cornerback at some point throughout the 2016 NFL Draft, but the needs are corner is fairly great for both teams. Signing Robinson would be a boost for either the Colts or the Cowboys, but in the long run, their answer to the woes in the secondary could be solved best by effective drafting and developing a pass rush. If the Colts sign Robinson, expect the Cowboys to target former Philadelphia Eagle and Pittsburgh Steeler Brandon Boykin.
