The last Nintendo-themed rumor has yet to die down and yet a new one has emerged to take this place. This time the rumor concerns a theme we're quite familiar with the Nintendo NX. Specifically, its controller.
Yes, it's the controller again. Not the same one as before, mind you, a different one that looks like a PlayStation Vita.
The photos were first posted on reddit by someone named perkele37, who, after a few comments from other redditors, lists several specifics about the controller:
- "Only the upper 'nubs' of the sticks move."
- "The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom 'sphere.'"
- "The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don't believe this will be the final design."
- "Haptic feedback is feels like Apples 'taptic' engine. Not like regular rumble."
- "3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom."
So are these new photos to be trusted? This new device looks quite similar to the ones that appeared last week, with the same basic shape and lack of buttons. The only difference between the two is the color which suggests that the Nintendo NX could have different color schemes.
Additionally, the design resembles the widely reported patent that Nintendo had filed on Sept. 6, 2015. It too features embedded analog sticks and an elliptical touchscreen used to cover the entirety of the device. Granted, we don't know how far along the design is, but the evidence of touch screen controls and lack of buttons suggest that the console could be used for mobile which gives credence to the speculation of the NX being a cross between a console and mobile.
Of course, if this is the case, then maybe someone would be kind enough to show a picture of the controller with the handles on (like what is seen on the patent). Then again, there's always the chance that the device is exclusively mobile and there's a completely different one for the home console.
Lastly, analysis shows that there are no clear signs of being photoshopped significantly.
Per usual, Nintendo remains tight-lipped about the whole affair saying, "We have nothing to announce on this topic." So we'll have to wait before or during E3 this June when Nintendo is expected to officially unveil its latest console.
