Robert Griffin III is still without a team in NFL free agency, but the quarterback appears to be close to finding a new home. The Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets have all shown interest in RG3, and he could sign with one of those teams soon.
Griffin was released by the Washington Redskins this offseason after four up-and-down seasons with the team. Griffin broke out in 2012 and won rookie of the year while leading the Redskins to the playoffs, but things did not continue going in that direction for the quarterback. Griffin dealt with multiple knee injuries over the last two seasons, which derailed his development for Washington.
The New York Jets have hosted Griffin for a visit, and the quarterback has also met with the Cleveland Browns. Jeff Fisher spoke about Griffin in an interview with the NFL network, saying that the Rams have "to consider" the quarterback as an option this offseason. The Denver Brconos are also in the mix, as head coach Gary Kubiak said at the NFL owners meetings that Griffin has "obviously been part of the conversation."
Where Griffin will land remains to be seen, but he clearly has some options. The Broncos let Brock Osweiler go in free agency and need to replace Peyton Manning, while the Jets have not yet agreed to a contract with Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Rams have Case Keenum and Nick Foles, but the prevailing thought in Los Angeles is that the team needs an upgrade. Cleveland is in need of a major upgrade after using Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel last season.
The Browns appear to be the closest to getting Griffin, as Jay Glazer is reporting that "most" people around the league think Griffin will end up in Cleveland. Griffin met with new Browns head coach Hue Jackson and reportedly left him with a great impression. Jackson said that Griffin is a "good young man" and has the talent to be successful in the NFL again.
"I think he humbled himself a little bit," Jackson said. "Know that he has a lot of work to do ahead of him to get himself back to where he was. But I think he's willing to do the work. He's trying to find a football team that's the best fit for him.
Griffin last played for the Redskins in 2014 before being benched this past season. Griffin played in nine games that year, completing 68 percent of his passes while throwing for 1694 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions. Griffin was most dynamic in 2012 when he threw for 3200 yards, rushed for 826 yards and combined for 27 total touchdowns.
