If you are an NBA fan you know by now that the Golden State Warriors are having a historic season. Golden State has the best record in the NBA and while their main goal is to win back-to-back NBA titles they are also in pursuit of a couple of records.
The Warriors have yet to lose a game this season at home and want to finish the season undefeated at Oracle arena. On top of that they are currently on pace to break the longstanding Chicago Bulls record of 72 wins in a season. Aside from those two records the Warriors also have home court advantage in the playoffs to play for as they are only four games ahead of the Spurs for the top seed in the Western Conference.
Steve Kerr has come out and said that rest is a bigger priority than breaking any of the aforementioned records but many Warriors players have been very forthcoming in saying they want to break the wins record. Having Stephen Curry, the likely back-to-back MVP, on the floor is essential to breaking that record but there are some that believe he will be rested at least once more during this regular season.
The logical time to rest Curry, based on the schedule, would be on Sunday when the Warriors host the Philadelphia 76ers if they are going to at all. The 76ers are the worst team in the NBA and have lost 19 of their last 20 games so Golden State would likely be able to handle them without their best player. Having said that though, the 76ers did give the Warriors a scare earlier in this season. This game is at home though which makes it an even more likely win for Golden State.
Even though rest is an option for Curry and the Warriors he has said that nobody has approached him yet about taking a game off. The 28-year-old point guard has made it clear this season that he has no intention of ever resting unless it is completely necessary. Curry's play recently does not scream out that he is fatigued or needs a game off. The reigning MVP's last two games were bad but before that he averaged more than 30 points per game over a five game span.
Whether the Warriors decide to rest Curry or not they have his, and the teams, best interest in mind. Curry and the Warriors want to break the record and etch their name in the history books but they all understand that there are bigger goals on the line. As long as Curry is healthy and not fatigued he will want to suit up for the final 12 games and the Warriors should grant that wish.
