Ronda Rousey Says Loss To Holly Holm Was 'Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me'

Ronda Rousey once seemed like an invincible woman in the octagon. However, at UFC 193, one kick from Holly Holm took that aura right away from Rousey, and at first, she did not handle the loss very well.

Rousey has not fought since that loss to Holm, but she is planning to return to the octagon around November. There has already been some talk about Rousey headlining the UFC's first ever event in New York in a rematch against Holm, but all of that is just preliminary at this point. As she nears her return, though, Rousey seems to be in a much better place and has a more positive outlook after her loss.

"When it comes to challenges, I honestly believe that things happen for a reason," Rousey said. "At the time yes it's hard on a personal, emotional level and it's hard to look past what's happening to the future, but you have to believe in yourself because down the line in two, five, ten years' time you'll look back and think that was actually the best thing that ever happened to me."

It is completely understandable that Rousey took the loss to Holm extremely hard considering it was the first time she had lost a fight in the UFC. With that in mind, it is also great to hear that she ditched the suicidal thoughts for a more positive outlook. One loss does not define her career as a fighter because she was clearly dominant for a long time and may still continue to be.

It is very possible that the loss to Holm was a fluke, especially when you realize Holm lost her first title defense to Miesha Tate, someone Rousey has already beaten twice. Rousey may get that chance to prove that it was a fluke in her next fight. The initial thought process was to have Rousey face the winner of the Holm vs. Tate fight, but Tate doesn't want to wait until November to defend her title.

On a similar note, Holm believes that she deserves a rematch with Tate for the title more than Rousey does, so a Holm vs. Rousey rematch could be a fight that takes place to see which one gets that title shot. No matter who Rousey fights next, you can be assured that she will be extra motivated to get back to her dominant ways, and for that reason, she will likely be a heavy favorite.
