The Tennessee Titans have the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft this year, but the team could be willing to make a trade. There are a number of teams that could be interested in moving up to take Carson Wentz or Jared Goff, including the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.
Titans general manager Jon Robinson said last week that it would take a "king's ransom" to move up to get the pick, but now it appears that the team is more willing to move the selection. Tennessee is reportedly considering taking Laremy Tunsil at number one, but the team may want to move down to recoup some selections if it thinks Tunsil will still be on the board. Robinson clarified the stance for Tennessee with Adam Schefter at ESPN.
"We'd be open to moving the pick. I think the statement I made the other day maybe got taken out of context a little bit with 'kings ransom'. ... The question was what would it take to move way back in the draft, which would take a lot of picks. ... I think some heard that I wasn't open to moving, or we weren't open to moving the pick, which is not true," Robinson said.
The top part of the draft could see some major movement due to the fact that the Titans do not need a quarterback. Goff and Wentz are considered to be the top players at the position, and they are expected to go within the top 10 picks. NFL.com reports that a league executive thinks that the Philadelphia Eagles could move up to the top spot to draft Wentz over the Browns, who pick at number two.
The Browns are reportedly very impressed with Wentz, and could take him over Goff if they have the chance. Clearly some other teams are interested, as Robert Klemko of Monday Morning Quarterback writes that "there are four teams in play to trade up to the No. 1 spot," including the Eagles, 49ers, Rams and Browns. Wentz has great size at 6-foot-6, 235 pounds, and comes in after throwing for 1,669 yards with 16 touchdowns and two interceptions last season.
Although the Eagles re-signed Sam Bradford and added Chase Daniel this offseason, it doesn't mean they won't consider taking another quarterback in the draft. Head coach Doug Pederson may want to develop a QB for the future as he takes over in Philly. NJ.com reports that Goff and Wentz are both targets for the Eagles. Chip Kelly is with the 49ers, and the team may not be confident moving forward with Colin Kaepernick, who was mentioned in trade rumors this offseason.
Will anyone trade up for the top pick with the Titans? The draft is a month away; only time will tell.
