Dolphins, Arian Foster Unlikely To Agree On Deal After Free Agent Visit Tuesday

The Miami Dolphins need a running back. The team allowed the talented Lamar Miller to walk in free agency after largely neglecting him over his first four years in the league (inexplicable). Dolphins general manager Chris Grier then struck out on C.J. Anderson after the Denver Broncos matched the offer sheet Miami had signed him to. That leaves Jay Ajayi as the only running back of note on the depth chart and his nine-game rookie season was not much of a confidence booster.

Again, the Dolphins need a running back. Badly.

That is why the team has scheduled a visit with free agent running back Arian Foster for Tuesday. However, the Dolphins are not expected to sign him after the meeting as Foster is still not 100 percent recovered from last year's Achilles injury.

Foster is also expected to take his time in free agency as he continues to recover, so it's not as if he is rushing to find a deal right away. The running back is expected to be fully recovered sometime this summer.

Abdul Foster, Arian's older brother and training partner, said that Arian is right on track in his work.

"Arian's doing great," Abdul said. "When you go through stuff like this, you say, 'Okay, I'm financially set. I don't need to do this to take care of my family, but at the end of the day, do I still love this game? Is there still a passion for me?' The reason I'm excited is because Arian is still passionate about football.

"That's always a question when money is involved and you've made your mark in the league. Do you still have a desire to play in the league. Arian still does, which is exciting to me. The good part is he's motivated. He's definitely putting in the work here."

Foster ran for 163 yards on 63 carries (2.6 YPC) and caught 22 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns in 2015. He has not appeared in a full 16-game schedule since 2012. In 2014, his last healthy season, he ran for 1,246 yards on 260 attempts (4.8) and eight scores with 38 receptions for 327 yards and an additional five touchdowns.
