Battlefield 4 Problems: Microsoft Offering Premium Refunds While Sony Gets A Patch To Fix Ongoing Glitches

It's no secret that developers DICE and EA have been having a lot of trouble with the launch of the newest installment in the Battlefield franchise of games "Battlefield 4." In the wake of all of these problems and errors, many unhappy Battlefield 4 Premium customers (those who spent extra money for exclusive content) on the Xbox One are successfully obtaining refunds from Microsoft.

When the premium membership was announced, EA revealed that those users who subscribed would be given access to all of the game's DLC and Expansions for no extra charge once it was bought for $49.99. However, in light of continuing and often growing problems with the game, many people have become disillusioned with the title entirely and are demanding a refund from Microsoft support.

Apparently Microsoft agrees that the current situation of unstable servers and broken DLC merits giving customers their money back and several people have reported getting their cash back in full. IGN even found one user who claims that he was given a refund but was allowed to maintain his Premium status. There's no word yet if he is an exception to the rule or if Battlefield is offering the service as sort of a consolation rebate for the shotty launch.

As of right now, it's unclear if Sony PlayStation users will be eligible for refunds or if this was a choice that only Microsoft intends to make. Although the refunds are a reaction to problems with the game, EA and DICE have announced an updated patch for the PlayStation 4 that "should remove a large amount of the client crashes we are currently seeing on the PS4," as well as "reduce the probability of getting a corrupt save file." This will hopefully give players' campaign data a safe status from vanishing unexpectedly.

As for a patch for the Xbox, which is currently bleeding Premium subscribers, DICE said the patch to fix those issues is on its way.

"This new combined Xbox One patch is currently in testing and certification, and we will release it as soon as possible," the developer said. "We are hoping to get it live late this week or early next week. We will keep you updated. We will share the full change notes for this patch as it goes live. It will focus on stability and some of the feedback we've seen from the community, including a fix for the one-hit kill bug and Commander EMP blur effect."
