Florida prosecutors announced Wednesday they won't press charges against George Zimmerman in the case of a domestic dispute with girlfriend Samantha Scheibe.
Scheibe filed a sworn statement one day prior saying that she didn't want to charge Zimmerman for allegedly pointing a long-barreled shotgun in her face during a fight.
State Attorney Phil Archer told CNN in a written statement that Scheibe's legal team wouldn't be pursuing the issue.
"Upon reviewing the recent affidavit of Ms. Scheibe and taking into account the conflicting statements about what occurred, the failure to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, and a lack of any other corroborating evidence or witnesses, there is no reasonable likelihood of successful prosecution," Archer wrote in his statement.
Zimmerman's legal team applauded the decision, CNN reported.
"On behalf of George Zimmerman, I am pleased that I was able to present credible evidence to reasonable prosecutors who took the time to listen and that justice prevailed," Zimmerman's attorney Jayne Weintraub wrote in her response. "This demonstrates how great our system is."
Zimmerman, who was acquitted of murder charges earlier this year for shooting and killing unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, was arrested in November after engaging in a heated argument with Scheibe at her home in Apopka, Fla.
According to separate 911 calls made by both Scheibe and Zimmerman, police were called to Scheibe's residence after the two began brawling. Scheibe said Zimmerman was holding firearms, broke a glass table, then locked her out of the house.
Zimmerman was arrested on-site. His bond was posted at $9,000 and he was told to lay down his arms, wear an ankle bracelet, and cease contact with Scheibe.
On Tuesday, Scheibe stated she didn't want her boyfriend charged.
"When I was being questioned by police I felt very intimidated," she wrote in the legal document. "I believe that the police misinterpreted me and that I may have misspoken about certain facts in my statement to police."
Scheibe also added that Zimmerman, "never pointed a gun at or toward my face in a threatening manner," and "I want to be with George."
