Krispy Kreme Giving Away Free Doughnuts: 'It's True And Not An April Fool's Joke'

Krispy Kreme wants to make sure everyone knows that its latest deal has nothing to do with April Fool's Day.

The popular doughnut chain has revealed that it will be giving away a free Original Glazed doughnut at participating stores on Friday, April 1, and considering it's the day of pranks, people didn't believe it at first. Krispy Kreme started teasing the deal a few days ago on social media, explaining that the free doughnuts are for customer appreciation and a good harvest year.

"Each year the Doughnut Harvest yields hundreds of thousands of bushels of doughnettes-each one carefully nurtured from a doughnut seeding, then individually selected by our master doughnut growers at the peak of freshness-which are then brought into our shops for final glazing or hand-decorating," the company explained. "This year, on account of the unusually fair winter, the Doughnut Harvest was especially bountiful. Now, for the first time, the surplus is so great we are inviting guests everywhere to join us in celebration."

While this story may be a joke, the free doughnuts are definitely not. Krispy Kreme even responded to several of its confused followers who questioned whether or not this deal was serious.

"It's real. Join the #DoughnutHarvest," the company tweeted.

Coffee with America then tweeted, "This is no #AprilFools...@krispykreme is giving away a free Original Glazed doughnut today!" The doughnut company, which is known for its original glazed, then responded, saying, "It's true and not an April Fools joke. See you soon."

This deal comes after the exciting news that Krispy Kreme ice cream sandwiches will soon be released at Japanese locations. The Cool Krispy Sandwich features a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a scoop of raspberry ice cream and an assortment of frozen berries sandwiched between two halves of an Original Glazed doughnut. The sandwich will go for $3.75 and be available starting April 13 at Krispy Kreme locations all across Japan.
