The Houston Texans won the AFC South division title with a 9-7 record last season and have made some significant moves this offseason, including landing quarterback Brock Osweiler and running back Lamar Miller in free agency.
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is looking for his team to take a step forward after posting 9-7 records in his first two seasons in Houston, and the Texans should look to add a dynamic wide receiver in the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft.
One player to keep an eye on is Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman, who many have projected to land with the Texans in recent mock drafts. The Baylor Bears wide receiver talked with O'Brien multiple times during Baylor's pro day, and he could make a strong addition alongside star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
"I love the organization," Coleman said following his pro day. "Bill O'Brien is a great coach. It's just a blessing to be out here and have him coach me up and tell me the stuff I'm doing wrong, stuff I'm doing right, and just learning." The 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner is arguably the best wide receiver prospect in this year's draft class and could be a steal should he slide to the Texans with the 22nd overall pick.
Despite multiple changes at the quarterback position for Baylor, Coleman continued to dominate on the field, recording 74 receptions for 1,363 yards with 20 touchdowns in his junior season. Coleman has blazing fast speed and would give Houston a deep threat that would compliment Hopkins. The Baylor prospect ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at his pro day, and his ability to break open downfield will make him an immediate threat at the next level.
The Texans have multiple needs to be addressed heading into the draft, both on their offensive and defensive line, but adding a talent of Coleman's caliber could be huge pickup for Houston. The Bears receiver has drawn comparisons with Arizona Cardinals speedy wide receiver John Brown, who has developed into a star in his second season in Arizona. Brown recorded 65 receptions for 1,003 yards with seven touchdowns in his second season with the Cardinals, and there is no doubt that Coleman could have the same production in Houston, should Osweiler prove himself a legitimate starter.
The Texans look to be a team heading in the right direction under O'Brien, and the addition of a playmaker like Coleman to Houston's offense could make them explosive. It will be interesting to see where the coveted receiver lands in the 2016 NFL Draft, but if he is still on the board for the Texans at 22, they should grab him quickly, as he could have a bright future in Houston.
