Google Shipping out Google Glass from Today, Company Says in Email

Google notified everyone on the Glass Explorers list on Monday that some of the wearable devices are off the production line and ready to be shipped.

According to an email the web giant sent out, some of the items are ready to be tested out by those who preordered the item last year when they were first announced.

"We've been working hard on the Glass Explorer Edition and we have great news: the hardware and software are now ready for you," the Glass Team wrote in the e-mail. "We're seeing the first few devices come off the production line right now."

The company said that as soon as the Google Glasses are ready, they will send them out to those on the waiting list instead of waiting for them all to be ready and ship them out at once.

"We're producing enough for everyone, but only a portion of them are ready today. Therefore, we'll be notifying you in waves," Google wrote.

Google Glass is an augmented reality headwear that allows users to record videos, snap photos, use maps, chat, search the internet and more.

Earlier reports suggested that Google Glass is being manufactured in Silicon Valley. If true, shipping should be a relatively straightforward affair for the search giant.

Google Glass is expected to arrive on the market for the general public later this year.
