Bollywood actress and "Quantico" star Priyanka Chopra tried to commit suicide on at least two occasions during the early days of her career, according to Prakash Jaju, her former secretary and business manager.
"PC may look very strong now but she was also very vulnerable in struggling days, tried to commit suicide 2-3 times but i managed to stop her," Jaju tweeted on Saturday.
The "Jai Gangajal" actress's former manager also revealed in a series of tweets that the actress had attempted to commit suicide due to her bitter relationship with former boyfriend Aseem Merchant. He claimed that the couple used to fight frequently. He also alleged that once after a bitter war of words with Aseem, Chopra drove to Vasai to commit suicide.
He also claimed that the 33-year-old actress also tried to commit suicide after the death of Aseem's mother in 2002, as she was very close to her. "PC was very close to Aseem merchant's mother, her death in 2002 shattered her so much that she tried to jump off karan apt to commit suicide," he claimed. " I reached at nick of time & caught hold of her & tied her to a chair till grills were fixed in all the windows of the flat."
Jaaju, who had earlier served a 67-day prison term for threatening Chopra, is known for making outrageous statements against the actress. The feud between the actress and her former secretary started when she suddenly terminated his services in 2004.
Jaju's shocking revelations came a day after popular Indian television actress Pratyusha Banerjee allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her Mumbai residence. Banerjee, known for her work in popular prime time TV serial "Balika Badhu," was found dead at her apartment Friday night. Pratyusha's sudden death has left the Indian film and television industry in a state of shock.
Mumbai police have detained her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh in connection with the tragic incident. Media reports suggest that the 24-year-old actress was facing trouble in her personal life, which would have propelled her to take the extreme step. She has worked in TV serials "Sasural Simar Ka," "Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya" "Savdhaan India." She also appeared in Salman Khan's celebrity reality show "Bigg Boss 7" and reality dance show "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 5."
